Frisco: Community Parade to offer cash prizes for best floats
Tuesday, October 28th, 2008The Frisco Community Parade is putting its money where it wants to see improvement n parade floats. The committee has announced that it is offering a $1,000 grand prize to the best school float, a $500 runner-up prize and a $250 prize for honorable mention. Schools winning for best entry in their specific division, elementary, middle school or high school, will be awarded trophies.
Former Mayor Mike Simpson and Buddy Minett, a member of the Frisco School Board and long-time float builder, are active members of the Frisco Community Parade committee. They said they hope that the prizes and trophies will increase interest in floats for this year’s parade, which is scheduled for Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. The parade theme this year is Salute to the Troops, but school spirit-themed floats are also acceptable.
The money for the prizes will come from money received from parade entries. The parade committee also donates funds to a Community Spirit Scholarship.
The Frisco Community Parade Committee is a grass roots organization made up of interested community leaders and volunteers. Groups interested in signing up for this year’s event may do so at www.FriscoParade.com.
The parade route begins at Pizza Hut Park and winds east along Main Street through old downtown.
